Raku wall panel with windswept tree, large panel
These wall panels are made from smoke-fired raku ceramic. This is an inherently unpredictable process where ceramics are fired at high temperatures (1000 degrees C), removed from the kiln and smoked in paper or wood shavings. The melted, glowing hot ceramic glaze cools rapidly, and the smoke penetrates pores in the clay and the crazing in the glaze. Metallic glazes arise from reduction firing and reduction (lack of oxygen) during the smoking process. Each wall panel is unique, the pattern of crazing and colours of the glazes are different each time it is fired.
This wall panel is 30cm in diameter and is hung using a wire fastened securely at the back through holes in the clay
